Security Guard Instructor Development Course
40 Hour Security Guard Instructor Development Course
​
The Security Guard Instructor Development Course (IDC) is a modified version of the Police Instructor Development Course. The goal of the course is to assist instructor candidates in developing the ability to research, prepare and impart their knowledge to others. Emphasis is on the development and/or enhancement of competency in those instructional skills/techniques required for efficiently and effectively meeting training needs. Successful completion of this course gives you 40 points of the 70 required to become a State Certified Security Guard Instructor.

Becoming a NYS Security Guard Instructor

Once you successfully complete this 40 hour Instructor Development Course, you may proceed in
submitting your security guard instructor application to DCJS if the following requirements are met:

You must possess a High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent

You must be one of the following at the time you submit your application to DCJS:

Possess a valid security guard registration (guard card); or
-
Be an officer, members, or principal currently licensed by the Department of State (DOS) as:

A private investigator; or
-
Watch, guard, or patrol agency; or
-
Armored car carrier agency; or
-
-
Be currently employed as a police or peace officer in good standing within NYS

You must have a minimum cumulative total of 70 Points. Points are earned with a combination of education (25-40), work experience (up to 30) and successful completion of this Instructor Development Course (40 Points).

You must complete the Security Guard Instructor Application and submit to DCJS along with the $500 Certification Fee.
Course Price $800 upstate /western NY /$900 downstate. (Pre-Enrollment and Pre-Payment is required one week in advance.)
